General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) starts May 2018 – is your business ready?

Laws on data protection are changing, with GDPR coming into force on 25 May 2018. The new laws apply to all organisations, anywhere in the world that handle the personal data and information of EU citizens, regardless of the size of the organisation or whether it’s based in the EU or not.

Penalties for breaches are severe with a tiered approach to fines. For the most serious infringements organisations can be fined up to 4% of annual global turnover or up to €20m.

So what do you need to do now?

The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) has published a very useful PDF “Preparing for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – 12 steps to take now” which you can download here.
